Runhe Xiangjiang Tiandi is situated in the core area of Moon Island Cultural and Tourism New Town in Changsha, adjacent to the Xiangjiang River and facing Moon Island, endowed with the rare natural assets of “one river, one island, six parks” . This geographical DNA establishes the underlying logic of the design: the space must respond to the core experiential requirement of “living by the river.” Demographic analysis reveals that the primary buyers are improvement-oriented families aged 35–40, favoring four-bedroom layouts of approximately 110–144 square meters —households typically in the “sandwich generation” phase, balancing the needs of aging parents and growing children. Their spatial requirements demand both ceremonial dignity and functional efficiency. The core design challenge thus emerges: how to translate the external river-view resources into internal emotional assets within a limited footprint, while simultaneously accommodating the complex living needs of three generations.

The design navigated these constraints through meticulous interface and construction detailing, translating technical rationality into an extension of spatial experience. Ultimately, what this 116-square-meter residence conveys is not an accumulation of Nordic stylistic tropes, but a life script available for its inhabitants to author. It demonstrates that the true value of living by the river lies not in the grandeur of the view outside the window, but in whether the space can make that view the everyday backdrop of life.
