我是摩洛哥人,我们国家也吃辣。本以为自己是“吃辣小能手”,结果在湖南辣椒面前,我是个小菜鸟!湖南的辣不一样,湖南的辣会追你、会咬你、会让你第二天还记得它。
I'm Moroccan, and we eat spicy food in my country too. I used to think I was a "spice expert," but in front of Hunan chilies, I'm a total amateur! Hunan's spiciness is different; it chases you, it bites you, and it makes sure you still remember it the next day.
第一次和同学吃饭,我自信地说:“我要不辣的菜。”结果老板端上来一盘红彤彤的菜。我看着同学,同学看着我。他笑着说:“这就是湖南的‘不辣’。”
The first time I went out for a meal with my classmates, I confidently said, "I want my dishes non-spicy." The next thing I knew, the owner brought out a plate that was bright red. I looked at my classmate, and my classmate looked at me. He smiled and said, "This is what 'not spicy' means in Hunan."
我哭笑不得。那一刻我明白了:在湖南,辣椒不是调料,是文化。
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. At that moment, I understood: in Hunan, chili is not just a seasoning, it's a culture.
